SVMP Hurricane Sandy Project Recap

SVMP Alums (Stephanie Evans – SVMP ’09, Michael Crawford – SVMP ’08) give back with NY Cares during the SVMP Alumni Hurricane Sandy Volunteer Project in Far Rockaway, Queens.

“The group met up bright and early in Times Square and traveled together by train and shuttle to the Nazarene Church in Far Rockaway, Queens. We had great conversation on the way. At the site, we helped a NY Cares team in sorting through food donations; setting up a distribution area; and handing out food to a plethora of people in need of assistance. Many of these individuals were still recovering from the effects of Hurricane Sandy. I spoke with a few who were without gas; some staying with family members; and others who were simply down on their luck. It was great that we went as the site was EXTREMELY short handed and really needed our help. Although it was a long day, it was a very rewarding and fulfilling experience. Great SVMP connections were made as well.”
